Colorado Springs therapy for overachievers

Do you hear people saying that you have it all together and then wonder how they could possibly think that?

Do you struggle to think that you did something well, even when you were the best at it?

Do you want to relax, but feel like you need to always be doing something?

Do you find yourself thinking, "If I knew what was wrong with me, I could fix it"?

You may struggle to recognize your strengths - or worse, to feel like your strengths really matter. You may have feel like you have to be the best at everything you do, even when it effects your friendships. Maybe you find yourself criticizing everything you do; saying things to yourself that you would never, ever say to someone else. You may have even started to wonder if you are crazy...

The struggle is real.

Our culture encourages perfectionism and many people struggle with it. In Colorado Springs, we work hard and we play hard, and it's tough to keep up. Becoming an overachiever is often the result of feeling pressure to constantly perform. For some people, the struggle started in early childhood. They had demanding parents or needed to constantly achieve to get attention. For others, it didn't start until college, or even when they joined the workforce. Achievement became survival for them. Many people don't even know where their perfectionism came from. It's just always been there, telling them to do one more thing. Reminding them that they aren't good enough yet. Often, overachievers don't even realize that they are overachievers because they are surrounded by so many people who are just like them.

Overachievers often struggle in silence. Who can you complain to when your life is so wonderful?

There's hope. With the help of a compassionate therapist who understands the struggle and how real it is, you can start to understand what motivates you, decide what you really want to achieve, and learn tangible skills that can help you to let go of the rest.

The solution is real, too!

Overachievers often struggle to know what they really want and to feel comfortable with letting go. I offer a calm, compassionate environment and encourage you to move at your own pace. Change takes time, and sometimes it isn't easy. I'm happy to be a guide along the way. In our sessions, I will offer information and tools that are tailored to who you are and where you want to be. This isn't cookie-cutter therapy. I offer Counseling in Colorado Springs that is specifically for you.

In our sessions, we will focus on understanding the neuroscience of anxiety, as well as your core beliefs, and your core values. Once we learn who you are as an individual, I will teach you techniques that help counteract anxiety, calm your frazzled mind, and allow you to give up the cycle of toxic productivity. Using techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I can help you to recognize unhelpful thinking, discover what matters to you, and learn skills that can help you to focus on what you truly love and let go of the rest.

Before becoming a mental health counselor, I spent 17 years working with Olympic and Paralympic athletes to help them reach their goals. With my experience working with some of the highest-achievers in the world, as well as my education in CBT, ACT, anxiety, and trauma, I can help you discover who you really are and live the life that you have imagined.

You may be wondering:

What if I don't need therapy?

The truth is, you can probably make it through life without therapy. But, will you enjoy your life? Will you be able to reach your goals? You don't "need" therapy to benefit from it. Therapy is life-changing, even for people who don't "need" it.

What if I fail at therapy?

A lot of overachievers find themselves avoiding things because they fear they will fail. Rest assured, there is no "failure" in therapy. Therapy is about learning, growing, and developing tools to handle the slings and arrows of life. There's no failure in therapy.

Can't I read a book and figure this out myself?

Yep! You sure can! This isn't rocket science, and you are smart enough to figure this out on your own. But, clients who have worked with me have often stated that they were able to progress faster and more effectively with regular sessions. Books give you valuable information, but therapy gives you a place to process your emotions, get feedback, ask questions, and have support in a way that even the most caring author simply can't provide.
